The current darling of the industry may have finally shown a weakness.
For months no-one thought Tesla's Model S had any faults. It scored top ratings from just about every major automotive publication due to its excellent handling abilities, safety and, perhaps most of all, its impressive driving range. But all of that may now soon be in question because a Model S has just caught on fire. The EV was driving on a highway in the US state of Washington when its driver pulled over after thinking he hit some metal debris on the freeway.
He also smelled something burning, and the car quickly was engulfed in flames.
However, only the front-end of the car was destroyed by fire; the rear was left completely intact. Tesla claims this is something the car was designed to do to prevent fires from spreading beyond their source. Tesla believes the fire was started due to a collision of some kind, but everything remains under investigation. Tesla shares also dropped in light of this video, but we'll have to wait and see what transpires.
