What we've long suspected has just been confirmed.
Although its name has yet to be announced, Cadillac has just confirmed in a press release that its highly anticipated rear-wheel-drive flagship sedan will launch in late 2015. The most recent rumor is that it’ll be called the LTS but again, that’s not official. Cadillac did say that final name will be announced soon. According to newly minted Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen, "The objective for this upcoming model is to lift the Cadillac range by entering the elite class of top-level luxury cars.
It (will use) completely new, custom-designed materials on a unique vehicle architecture." Cadillac also stated that production will take place at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck factory as part of a $384 million investment. This is a huge deal for Cadillac because, as previously reported, it’s planning an all-out war with Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW. It won’t even lower prices to attract customers. In fact, it’s raising them. Being elite means there’s no such thing as affordable luxury (that’s Hyundai’s department). Hopefully, design cues for the new flagship will be taken from the gorgeous Ciel and Elmiraj concepts. So yes, we knew this model was on its way, but it’s just nice to now have Cadillac’s official word.
