Italy's Most Iconic Car Gets The Lego Treatment

A true icon is immortalized in brick.

Through the imagination of The Lego Group, many automotive icons have been recreated using the company's famous bricks. Some of these Lego cars include life-size replicas while others are smaller, more accurate recreations from the Lego Technic Series. While it is not part of the advanced Lego Technic Series, the company's latest car creation is a highly detailed, 960-piece version of the iconic 1960s Fiat 500.

Introduced in 1957, the 500 quickly became one of the most iconic cars Italy has ever produced. Ferrari and Lamborghini fans may beg to differ but Fiat built a lot more 500s in a single year than there have ever been mid-engined supercars from Maranello and Sant'Agata Bolognese.

The Lego Creator Expert Fiat 500 (model number 10271) contains realistic brick details including a luggage rack with a suitcase, detailed interior, as well as opening roof, doors, hood, and tailgate. In fact, opening the rear hood reveals the car's tiny two-cylinder engine complete with hoses and other important components. Under the front hood reveals a spare tire while the interior is true to the original with a simplistic design and a manual gear lever.

Fitting in with the Cinquecento's Italian heritage, the Lego set includes a folding easel with a paintbrush, palette, and small painting of the car in front of the famous Colosseum in Rome. The car measures at 4 inches high, 9 inches long, and 4 inches wide, and is designed to be assembled by ages 16 and up. While some toy cars are powered by batteries and remote control, Lego is proud of the fact that this "collector's item runs on pure imagination and creativity."

Pricing will vary based on country but in the US, the Lego Creator Expert Fiat 500 will cost $89.99 and be available directly from Lego Stores and lego.com starting in March 2020.
