Special-edition Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon returns for 2020.
After being spotted on an online configurator, the special-edition Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon has returned for 2020. We already knew it was coming, however, because details of the new special-edition hardcore off-roader leaked a few weeks ago. While the Rubicon Recon was offered for the previous JK Wrangler, this is the first time it has been available for the current-generation JL model. In short, this is the most off-road capable Jeep Wrangler you can buy right now.
"We are excited to bring the Wrangler Rubicon Recon model back to the Jeep lineup as it represents the ultimate combination of Rubicon off-road 4x4 capability with a unique appearance package that will resonate with our most diehard off-road enthusiasts," said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand at FCA North America. "With the return of the Wrangler Rubicon Recon, we're bolstering the wide appeal Jeep Wrangler already offers by expanding our legendary Rubicon lineup."
Based on the Wrangler Rubicon, the rugged Recon edition features heavy-duty rock rails, LED headlights and taillights, a gloss black grille with body-color surrounds, a Recon fender badge, and a matte black fender vent decal showing the American flag. It also rides on unique 17-inch aluminum wheels with a black finish and is equipped with a matte black hood stripe decal with red tracer, front and rear steel bumpers with bumper loops, as well as Rubicon gray grille accents and headlamp inserts.
All Wrangler Rubicon Recon models feature Dana front and rear heavy-duty axles, enhanced off-road rock rails and a Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio.
Wrangler Rubicon Recon models also include electric front and rear locking differentials, and a disconnecting front sway bar. Chunky 33-inch Falken Wildpeak Mud-Terrain tires further improve the Wrangler's off-road capability.
Available exterior colors for the Wrangler Rubicon Recon include Black, Granite Crystal, Sting-Gray, Billet Silver, Ocean Blue, Sarge, Bikini, Firecracker Red, Punk'n, Hellayella and Bright White. Powering the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon is a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine with mild-hybrid tech that produces 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Order books for the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon are now open, with prices starting at $43,380 for the two-door model and $46,880 for the four-door version.
