The Jeep Wrangler 4xe has been granted the prestigious title of the 2022 Women's World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) for the 4x4 category. The decision was made by a panel consisting of 56 motoring journalists from 40 different countries across five continents. The criteria for the award are based on how well the car performs in its respective segment.

For the past 12 years, the panel has based its voting criteria on a car's safety features, driving characteristics, comfort levels, technological innovations, design, fuel efficiency, the impact it has on the environment, and overall value for money. The Wrangler 4xe was selected as the victor for 2022 because of how the hybrid system advances its general appeal.

Marta Garcia, executive president of WWCOTY says, "With the Wrangler 4xe, the Jeep brand has taken a giant step forward in many ways, but the most important is its commitment to a more sustainable environment. It is very much appreciated that one of the true SUVs left on the market has opted for hybridization. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe's commitment to the environment is of decisive value for the Women's World Car of the Year."

The massively popular Jeep Wrangler 4xe features the brand's turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder which is supported by an electric motor. Energy is sourced from a 17.3-kWh battery pack which can carry the 4x4 for an estimated 21 miles on electricity alone. A combined power output of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque is delivered to the 4x4 system through the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

Jeep CEO Christian Meunier says, "This Women's World Car award is further confirmation that electrification enhances the core capabilities of our Jeep vehicles. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a clear example that you can have the best of both worlds: legendary Jeep capability and open-air fun combined with an electrified, eco-friendly package that allows you to enjoy nature in almost absolute silence."

Five other categories are also voted on. The other winners in this sphere include the Peugeot 308 for the best Urban Models, the Kia Sportage for the Family SUV, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E for the Large Car category. The Large SUV category was won by the BMW iX while the Audi e-tron GT was awarded the Performance Car title. These six cars will now battle it out for the Best Car of the Year award, of which the result will be announced on March 8, 2022.
