Jaguar may have only just launched the new F-Type mere days ago, but already the sportscar is proving to be the start of something new for the marque from Coventry. Launched with three engines right from the start, the F-Type roadster is set to grow a coupe version potentially as soon as next month. But there's more. Reports fueled by statements made by Jaguar executives indicate that the British automaker could be preparing a racing version as well.

The competition-spec F-Type would likely compete in the GT3 class of various motor racing series around the world, probably using a tuned version of the supercharged V8 that sits at the top of the range. That would pit the F-Type racer against the Bentley Continental GT3 that was unveiled at the same Paris Motor Show as the new Jaguar roadster. It may be too early to narrow down any further details, but word has it that Jaguar is working on the project in partnership with the Williams F1 team with which it is already collaborating on the upcoming C-X75 supercar.
