Just 394 examples of the Edition 1988 will be made.
Jaguar's talented experts over at SV Bespoke have been hard at work creating a new special edition. We discovered the trademark for the Edition 1988back in March when we assumed it would be applied to the F-Type.
Instead, it will be this highly limited F-Pace SVR that pays tribute to the British marque's incredible Le Mans win 34 years ago. The awe-inspiring XJR-9 LM emerged victorious, completing as many as 394 laps throughout the challenging race.
Rather fittingly, Jaguar has limited Edition 1988 production to just 394 examples. Another nod to the triumphant racecar can be seen in the distinctive color scheme. We have to admit we're rather besotted by the gorgeous paintwork. Together with the Champagne Gold 22-inch wheels and Sunset Gold trimmings, the Midnight Amethyst Gloss works perfectly.
It's a rich color that not only pays tribute to the Le Mans winner but also lends the Edition 1988 a sinister look. What's more, it will remain the reserve of the exceptionally rare F-Pace SVR. "To achieve this dramatic finish, we assessed more than 40 variations to create the desired depth of color," notes Jaguar SVO's Richard Woolley.
The interior has also benefitted immensely. The Sunset Gold Satin trim extends to the steering wheel spokes, dashboard, and paddle shifters. The open-pore carbon fiber affords the plush cockpit a racier feel but, despite the performance on tap, this is still a decadent performance SUV.
As such, only the finest semi-aniline Ebony leather upholstery has been used on the performance seats, which also boast heating and cooling functionality. Just in case you forget you're sitting in something rather special, a 'One of 394' SV Bespoke graphic resides in the interior. Unique treadplates round everything off nicely.
"Edition 1988 started with our SV Bespoke and Jaguar Design teams taking inspiration from the iconic liveries of Jaguar's Le Mans-winning sports cars. The result is a winning combination of [colors], textures, and features that celebrates sporting success while making the F-Pace SVR even more appealing," notes Jaguar's Mark Wilkes.
The special edition retains the same powertrain found in the regular F-Pace SVR, which received a facelift last year. That's fine with us; the glorious supercharged 5.0-liter V8 is a masterpiece and emits a growl so intoxicating it risks converting even the most loyal EV owners.
With 550 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque under the bulging hood, this large cat can leap to 60 mph in a mere 3.8 seconds - not bad for an SUV that tips the scales at 4,535 lbs. The menacing Edition 1988 will make its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans between June 8-12, before strutting its stuff at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, from June 23-26.
So then, what's the cost of all this power and exclusivity? We hope you're sitting down for this - the Edition 1988 costs a whopping £101,550 (approx. $126,800); $40,000 more than the regular SVR.
Local pricing is yet to be confirmed but, just for the paint alone, we think it's worth every penny.
