The new XJR isn't the only new super-Jag being unveiled today at the New York Auto Show. It's not the only one with Jaguar's 5.0-liter supercharged V8, or even the most extreme. No, that title goes to the new XKR-S GT. The most hardcore model in the progression from XK to XKR to XKR-S, the GT is a track-focused but street-legal version of Jag's two-door coupe. While the 550-horsepower engine carries over unchanged, Coventry has given this Leaping Cat a series of enhancements.

The XKR-S GT can be identified by black-and-white paint scheme, if not by its front splitter, rear diffuser, big rear wing, various winglets and other bits made of carbon fiber, helping it generate 320 lbs of downforce. It's also got a louvered hood, adjustable dampers, stiffer springs, adaptive exhaust, faster steering rack, wider front track, carbon-ceramic brakes (a first for Jaguar) and 20" alloys wrapped in low-profile Pirelli PZero Corsa tires. With a six-speed auto-box and electronic differential, the XKR-S GT can reach 60 in just 3.9 seconds and top out at 186 mph - making it one of the quickest Jags since the famous XJ220.

Got all that? Good. It'll cost you a whopping $174,000, with only 25 heading to the US and another 5 earmarked for Canada. Check it out in the images just released, but don't miss the video below, if only to hear that awe-inspiring exhaust note.
