BMW builds some of the best driver's cars in the world, and its M division, which is responsible for all of its hardcore sports models, is celebrating 50 years of building badass German sports cars. In order to celebrate this momentous occasion, BMW has approved a bunch of special edition cars across the globe. The BMW M3 and M4 are celebrating with the exclusive Edition 50 Jahre BMW M, of which only 500 will be sold internationally. Now, BMW Japan has announced its own limited special editions, based on the BMW X5 and X6 SUVs called Edition Black Vermillion. Only five of each model will be produced.

When one thinks back on the long and rich history of the BMW M Performance division, SUVs only feature much later in its history, but in only a few years, these sports utility vehicles have become a big seller for BMW and its M division, and this BMW X6 and X5 sure look the part. Both cars are based on the M50i variant, which features a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. This translates into a 0-60 mph sprint in the low four-second range, and a top speed limited to 155 mph.

The two special editions feature a BMW Individual Frozen Black paint job with red accents on the kidney grille, and a set of 22-inch M light alloy wheels with double spoke styling and an Orbit Gray Matte finish. Red M Sport brake calipers can be seen lurking in the background.

The interior also gets a few special touches in the form of full black BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery with red piping, special Edition Black Vermillion interior logos and Individual Piano Black trim, and exclusive Edition Black Vermillion floor mats. Both cars go on sale today on an online first-come, first-served basis and are priced at ¥ 16,120,000 (around $126,565) for the X5, and ¥ 16,530,000 ($129,784) for the X6.
