For the ultimate open-air off-roading experience, removable doors and roof panels have long been a staple of the Wrangler formula, and they've made their way onto the new Gladiator pickup truck, as well. But when it comes to the doors, there are some safety concerns; removing them also means taking off the side mirrors. That's a problem that the new Ford Bronco doesn't have. To rectify this, aftermarket companies have long offered custom doors-off mirrors, but that hasn't stopped customers from begging for an official Mopar accessory for years.
Now, at long last, Jeep has heard their prayers, offering an OEM doors-off mirror kit for the Wrangler and Gladiator.
It's perhaps a bit less elegant than the Bronco's solution, requiring owners to install an alternative pair of side mirrors whenever the doors are removed, but it will do. Each mirror attaches at a cowl end cap bolt and the upper door hinge, with a custom thumb wheel-nut-clamp also affixing to the door flange. The mounting brackets are finished with an anti-corrosion undercoat and black powder-coat finish, and the mirrors include a built-in break-away feature that prevents damage when navigating through tight spaces.
The best news: no special tools are required for installation, as the kit can be installed with a T40 bit wrench - like the one included in the standard tool kit found in all new Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models.
"With our new doors-off mirror kit, Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator owners will enjoy an improved range of vision during their open-air adventures," says FCA North America's Head of Mopar, Mark Bosanac. And unlike aftermarket alternative accessories, Mopar's doors-off mirrors are "specifically engineered and tested to original-equipment standards" and provide "a production-equivalent field of view with minimal vibration," he says.
Available for all current-generation Jeep Wranglers from the 2018 model year and newer and all Jeep Wrangler models from the 2020 model year, the Mopar Doors-off Mirror Kit has a suggested retail price of $295.
