Mopar, the service and parts brand of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, has been busy in recent times. Knowing that truck and SUV owners are keen on customization, the company recently unveiled lift kits for the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator, along with a bold hood for the Ram 1500.

The latest release by Mopar is a factory-backed trailer brake controller for the Jeep Gladiator pickup, further improving the towing experience for owners of this truck. Using the trailer brake controller, customers will be able to activate the electronic brakes on trailers that are suitably equipped. These trailer brakes exist independently from the truck's braking system.

The trailer brakes improve stopping power under demanding conditions such as when navigating steep downhill grades. They also have the benefit of reducing wear and tear on both the trailer and the truck, so are an especially viable upgrade for owners who tow quite often. The trailer brake controller itself is integrated into the Gladiator's instrument panel, with a round controller knob situated ahead of the shift lever. The amount of brake force on the trailer can be customized as well. Existing owners of Jeep Gladiators will be able to have the trailer brake controller retrofitted.

"Our new trailer brake controller improves Jeep Gladiator's braking efficiency and maximizes safety when towing," said Mark Bosanac, Head of Mopar Service, Parts, and Customer Care.

The Gladiator has a maximum towing capacity of 7,650 pounds when equipped with the V6 gas engine, which is competitive within its segment. Mopar's latest trailer brake controller complements a slew of other upgrades to the 2021 Gladiator, such as a full-time four-wheel-drive system now being offered on every trim. A new 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine joins the lineup as well.

For customers interested in the Mopar trailer brake controller, the part costs $299 and includes a two-year/unlimited-mile warranty either from the date of purchase or up to the remainder of the standard three-year/36,000-mile warranty that comes with every Gladiator.
