Jeep North America boss Jim Morrison told CarBuzz at last week's 2023 Chicago Auto Show that the brand is having no problem selling its new Grand Wagoneer flagship luxury SUV, specifically the nearly $110,000 Series III and Series III Obsidian trims.

"Those [two trims] are in the highest demand," he said. "We're not selling the most of them [compared to other trims] but demand is the highest [within the Grand Wagoneer lineup]."

The off-road brand reported combined Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer sales last year came to an impressive 47,995 examples. It was the first model year for both and Morrison is understandably bullish for 2023. Anyone who had doubts Jeep would find a sufficient number of customers for such expensive SUVs has been proven wrong.

"There were a lot of questions about whether we could sell a $100k SUV and we just added the long wheelbase for 2023 [Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L] and we're continuing to add new customers to our portfolio."

The 2023 Grand Wagoneer cannot be had for less than $88,640 while the less luxurious Wagoneer carries a starting price of $58,995. Both body-on-frame SUVs come standard with three rows of seats but they have different V8s under the hood. The Wagoneer boasts the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with the eTorque 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Total output comes to 392 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque and can tow a maximum of 10,000 pounds.

The Grand Wagoneer swaps the 5.7 for the 6.4-liter V8 and its 471 hp and 455 lb-ft of twist. Its maximum towing capacity is just under 10,000 pounds. Jeep recently added the new 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbocharged engine, also known as the Hurricane, and will later offer a plug-in hybrid variant that's expected to utilize the 4xe moniker.

The Wagoneer comes with standard rear-wheel-drive and three optional 4x4 systems while the Grand Wagoneer comes with standard four-wheel drive and the Quadra-Lift suspension that's capable of lowering the SUV to make for easier entry and exit and improved aerodynamics. The Quadra-Lift system is optional on the Wagoneer.

The $30k price difference is more visible inside with the Grand Wagoneer receiving more supple leather upholstery, American walnut wood trim on the dashboard, doors, and center console, and optional Piano Black trim on the instrument panel. The Wagoneer has no wood interior trim pieces. The Wagoneer also lacks the Obsidian trims Morrison referenced and there are no current plans to offer them. The most expensive Wagoneer is the Series III, which begins at $71,865.
