Jeep recently flummoxed the internet when it released a cryptic tweet hinting at the possibility of a Wrangler Roadster, or possibly an improved version of the hybrid Wrangler 4xe. The image showed a sign showing the outline of a roofless Jeep Wrangler. Underneath the outline is a simple arrow pointing upward with the number 40.4 next to it. The caption of the Tweet simply reads "a sign of things to come". People have been relating the figure to off-road related figures such as ground clearance, while some have attached the mysterious numbers to increased battery pack sizes or electric range, but it is all still speculation. Jeep seems to enjoy playing games with its fans, and has released a second tweet showing the rear end of a Wrangler, with its license plate showing a figure of 47.4 with a caption that reads "The difference is big".

The second figure doesn't really help figure out the significance of the first, but the fact that they are both in the 40-range could narrow things down. Many internet users have been mentioning improved approach and departure angles, in which case an approach angle of 47.4 degrees would be seriously impressive, as the Rubicon currently offers a 43.4-degree angle of attack. Flexing these numbers would make sense seeing as the Ford Bronco, the Wrangler's biggest competitor, has just arrived on the scene and promises to be highly capable off the beaten track.

When the first image was released on Monday, we had a bit more to work with. Why was the sign in the desert, and why did it show a topless Jeep? The new image gives us even less to work with, and the figure of 47.4 seems to be a puzzle piece that refuses to fit in anywhere. Could we be in for a long string of teasers that end up being GPS coordinates? Or is this something much simpler? Only Jeep's marketing team knows, but we're here for it.
