Since its launch, the reintroduction of the Jeep Grand Cherokee has proved to be a sound idea for the brand. It's officially America's favorite SUV. Next to the Wrangler, the Cherokee is also one of the more diverse models in the brand's lineup, spanning a huge number of trim levels, body styles, and engine options, many of which are too expansive to list here.

Thankfully, the list of changes for the model's latest year is fairly simple. However, a few of them might cause some problems with potential Jeep buyers, limiting what you can and can't get on lower-tier models.

The best example of that is the Trailhawk trim. In other models, this is the brand's overland-y off-road trim (besides in the Wrangler, of course). Now, for 2023, the Trailhawk trim is now only available on the Grand Cherokee 4xe model. That said, rest assured the Trailhawk won't be the only performance Cherokee for long.

Additionally, the 4xe now gets standard gloss black exterior accents. We're kinda bummed about that one, as a lightly-optioned off-road luxury cruiser sounded perfect to us. Now, you've got to spend the money for the hybrid.

Moving on, Jeep has also restricted the 10.1-inch digital screen on the base Grand Cherokee lineup to the Limited and Overland models, on which it now comes standard. Keeping with the base model, the nine-speaker Alpine system is now available as a standalone option for Limited trims. The nicer 19-speaker unit is now an option on Overland and Summit models.

That leaves us with the changes for the big boy Grand Cherokee L model. Predictably, most of Jeep's 2023 MY changes do carry over from the SUV's less-lengthy cousin. That includes the 10.1-inch screen, now standard on Limited and Overland trims, just as before.

Jeep's audio changes from the smaller GC carry over here as well. The 9-speaker Alpine unit is now a standalone option on the Limited trim, with the 19-speaker McIntosh unit now only on the Overland and Summit trims. As of now, that's it for this year's changes on the Cherokee. With the model being so new, we don't expect a refresh for some time, but an eventual electric model using Stellantis' electric vehicle architecture wouldn't be shocking either.
