Jeep's First All-Electric Model Coming In 2023

Industry News / Comments

And Dodge will get a PHEV next year.

The Stellantis group has revealed monumental plans for electrification, including an EV Dodge muscle car and EV Ram Truck confirmed for 2024. Those sound like exciting products, but during an earnings call to discuss first-half 2021 profits, Stellantis showed off a product roadmap that gives better insight into the company's more immediate future. This roadmap (pictured below) outlines Stellantis' plans for multiple brands from now until 2023.

We already knew Dodge planned to reveal a plug-in hybrid model next year in 2022, but now Stellantis has revealed that its first all-electric Jeep will arrive in the first half of 2023. What will this first EV model be? We have some ideas.

The Wrangler is our most educated guess, as Jeep already teased an all-electric model with the Magneto Concept, then again with another electric concept. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Hybrid has quickly become the best-selling PHEV in the US following its release in March, so buyers clearly enjoy the idea of an electrified Wrangler. However, Jeep's first EV might be a more mainstream model that could achieve a longer driving range.

PHEV models will still play a major role in Jeep's lineup for the foreseeable future, including a new variant coming later this year. Jeep already teased the Grand Cherokee 4xe, which is likely the PHEV model mentioned on the roadmap.

As for the Chrysler and Ram brands, neither one is represented on the roadmap. For the latter, we know that's because the first Ram EV isn't slated to arrive until after 2023. The former is more worrying, as Stellantis has essentially shown zero interest in giving the Chrysler brand a competitive PHEV or EV within the next two years. Chrysler did hint an an upcoming EV model, but it clearly won't show up until 2024 at the earliest.
