Tuning

Das Camino?

Longing for the days of small pickup trucks based on popular passenger cars? Something like the Subaru Brat or El Camino? Do you have some very inexplicable nostalgia for the Volkswagen Caddy? If you are a lucky owner of a fourth generation VW Jetta, a company called Smyth Kit Cars in Massachusetts can solve all of your problems with this unique conversion kit, earmarked specifically for turning the Jetta into a multi-purpose, functional pickup truck.

The three-box kit costs $3,500 and promises a build time that won't take more than a weekend. The kit includes a fully-functional steel tailgate, taillights, an aluminum reinforced steel bed, a sliding rear window with fiberglass window surround, and new fiberglass exterior panels. The six-foot bed has a payload of 750 pounds.
