Kia Concept EV9 Previews The Electric Telluride

Teaser / Comments

Let's hope the production model looks like this.

A few days ago, Kia teased its new Concept EV9 as the next step in the brand's expanding electric portfolio. Looking a lot like an electric Telluride, the Concept EV9 is expected to be one of the brand's largest and most luxurious vehicles - if not the largest. That's based not only on its boxy proportions but also on its EV9 badge. Kia previously said its new EVs will adopt a new naming convention from 1 to 9, with the EV9 presumably being the flagship model. Well, the guessing games can come to an end as Kia has just teased the Concept EV9 in a new live stream on YouTube. This coincided with the brand's presentation on how it will become a Sustainable Mobility Solutions Provider. As expected, the EV9 is one hulk of an SUV.

The Kia EV6 has impressed everyone with its audacious styling, versatile interior, and powerful electric motors. The Concept EV9 takes those elements and builds upon them, and is the next step to Kia achieving carbon neutrality throughout its value chain by 2045. Based on the dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture, the Concept EV9 has a futuristic appearance with detailing that really sets it apart from other large Kias like the Telluride.

The elaborate running lights, defined wheel arches, and bulbo hood give it a totally unique look. At the back, there are taillights that stretch in three directions. Kia says the Concept EV9 is inspired by the concept "Bold for Nature", and in a glimpse of the cabin, we can see the implementation of recycled plastic and vegan leather.

By 2030, Kia says that 20% of the plastic parts used for its cars will be recycled plastic. It will further lower its carbon footprint by turning to hydrogen power, both for its cars and factories.

The EV9's cabin appears airy, with clean lines, light-colored upholstery, and three seating rows. There's also a large glass roof that stretches far to the back. Kia says it has "an adaptive and smart lounge space" and also pointed out the use of an ultra-wide display and a radically new steering wheel.

Kia didn't share any technical details about the Concept EV9, but more will be revealed when the SUV has its official debut on November 17 at the 2021 LA Auto Show.
