Thinking about switching to an electric vehicle? Kia, for one, can hook you up with batter-powered versions of either the Soul or Niro. Now it's said to have another in the works, and like the other two we already know, it'll be a crossover.

According to the latest word on the street, the model getting the electric treatment this time is the Seltos – the South Korean automaker's latest crossover SUV, just revealed (for the North American market) at the LA Auto Show last month. Only we're told not to expect this version to appear in US showrooms.

The Seltos, for those who missed the reveal in November, is a subcompact crossover, slotting into Kia's lineup in between the Soul and the Sportage. As it stands, Kia is offering the Seltos here with either a 2.0-liter inline-four mated to a continuously variable transmission and rated at 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, or a more potent 1.6-liter turbo four good for 175 hp and 195 lb-ft and paired with a dual-clutch gearbox. The Seltos EV, of course, would do away with both in favor of an electric motor and a battery pack to join the electric-vehicle revolution.

Marque-specific publication The KEEA reports that the electric version of the Seltos – internally designated as project SP2 EV – would get a 204-hp electric motor and a 64-kWh battery pack to give it an all-electric range projected at 400 kilometers (or just under 250 miles). That would give it more punch than even the turbocharged version of the conventionally powered model – about on par with the new Soul EV, and well ahead of the Niro EV.

Unfortunately this model is expected to be limited to Asian markets. But if enough buyers ask for it, we wouldn't discount the possibility of Kia bringing it Stateside.
