Swedish supercar-maker Koenigsegg may be known for models like the CCX and Agera, but reports indicate that it has been quietly working on a new project over the past year. Details are just starting to leak out thanks to overseas sources as it appears Koenigsegg plans to launch the first-ever super ute. Company founder Christian Von Koenigsegg is know to be a longtime fan of the Chevrolet El Camino and Ford Ranchero, and the idea of doing something entirely new was something he simply couldn't pass up.
No word yet on whether the company will somehow reengineer the mid-engined Agera supercar so that it can handle a truck-like bed, but we're willing to bet Koenigsegg will go with a clean slate platform design. Like the Agera R and its predecessors, the new Koenigsegg super ute will have a highly limited production run, with each unit to fetch big bucks from wealthy customers. Expect to also see the Agera R's 5.0-liter twin turbo V8 under the hood of the still-unnamed super-ute but it'll likely be somewhat detuned in order for it not to infringe too much on the Agera's territory. Details such as pricing are still too far off but a concept is tipped to appear at the Frankfurt show this September.
