Lamborghini had yet another record-breaking year in 2022, delivering 9,233 vehicles and reaching a turnover that topped €2 billion (roughly $2.15 billion) for the first time. The exact turnover figure of €2.38 billion (around $2.56 billion) is an increase of 22% over 2021 and more than double the figure it posted five years ago.

In 2022, Lamborghini ran at an operating margin (profit per dollar spent) of 25.9%, which is a best-in-class result. At the end of 2022, that resulted in an operating income (total income minus operating cost) of $661 million, which is 56% higher than in 2021. In layman's terms, Lamborghini is the most successful automaker in the exclusive luxury market, which is more challenging than it may seem. Rolls Royce also had a record-setting year in 2022, and Bentley had its best year ever too.

"Our business continues to grow, and we can proudly confirm the achievement of truly remarkable targets once again in 2022," said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "These figures come in a very important year for the company, which is marking its 60th anniversary and entering the second phase of the Direzione Cor Tauri program: an unparalleled investment plan that will guide our growth, lead to further improvements in our financial performance, and boost the value of our brand and our company."

Winkelmann refers to the brand's electrification strategy, which officially starts with the all-new Aventador replacement. It's launching a V12 plug-in hybrid halo model first, followed by the highly-anticipated successor to the Huracan. The entire range will be electrified by 2024, and the Urus SUV will be fully-electric in 2029.

This is also the first time Lamborghini breached the 9,000 figure, with the model split precisely as expected. The Urus led the charge with 5,367 units sold, followed by the Huracan with 3,113. The company only sold 753 Aventadors, but production of the model ceased in September.

The USA remains Lambo's top customer, with 2,721 units delivered. Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao finished second with 1,018 units delivered, with Germany in third with 808 cars. The UK received 650 units, and Japan rounds up the top five with 546 vehicles.

"The economic and geopolitical situation has been tough in recent years, but we've been able to show our resilience and our capacity to work towards excellent economic and financial results," said Paolo Poma, the Managing Director and CFO of Automobili Lamborghini. "2022 was our best year ever on all financial and business fronts. It means we can take an optimistic outlook on the growth of our brand and our company."

With loads of new cars on the way, Lamborghini's astonishing profit margins should only improve.
