Lamborghini has announced a new GT3 racer for the 2013 and 2014 seasons as it commits its long term future to GT3 motorsport. The Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 FL2, co-developed by Reiter Engineering and Lambo's R&D motorsport department, is based on the 2013 Gallardo and designed to be a long-distance performer. To that end, it features "24-hour" brakes, improved engine cooling, reduced fuel consumption, and a new aero kit that includes a new front splitter, a rear carbon diffuser borrowed from the Super Trofeo.

It also boasts an improved power-to-weight ratio thanks to 25kg weight savings compared to the previous Gallardo GT3. "We are delighted to announce a minimum five-year agreement with Reiter Engineering as our exclusive development and supply partner for Lamborghini GT3 cars, based on Reiter's strong engineering skills, passion for and understanding of the Lamborghini brand and, of course, obvious racing success," said Lambo Head, Stephan Winkelmann. The GT3 FL2 is priced at 320,000 Euros before tax, with deliveries to teams in Europe and Asia to commence in March before participating in event such as the Italian GT3 Championship.
