Right now, all the hype in Italy is around two new supercars. In the one corner is Lamborghini's stellar Huracan Tecnica while in the other is the topless Ferrari 296 GTS. Both are fantastic and both are to be treasured, but the manufacturers of each have more on the way. Both Italian automakers are developing new SUVs, with Maranello set to enter the market for the first time with its Purosangue (which isn't really an SUV at all) and Sant'Agata looking to send its current Urus off with something special that could be called the Urus Evo. Other rumors have suggested the Performante suffix, but whatever it will be called, the higher-performance Urus is set to be special.

Our spy photographers have once again captured the enhanced Urus Evo (or whatever it will be called) testing near the Arctic Circle. As we can see here, the Huracan Tecnica's Ypsilon Y-shaped design elements are added just below the headlights, but it's unclear if this is a design trait that will be exclusive to the Evo or if it is part of the Urus facelift that is expected to arrive later this year at Pebble Beach. Underneath that vented hood, we're expecting the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to be boosted, possibly to as much as 700 hp, although nothing has yet been confirmed in this regard. The Evo should launch this year as a 2023 model.

In 2024, the Urus will be hybridized before it is replaced by an all-electric SUV. We don't know exactly when that is planned to happen, but Lamborghini's first EV of any sort is only likely to arrive in 2028. Whatever Lamborghini has planned, it will surely be special. Sending off the last of a certain powertrain type is always a big deal at high-end marques like this, and with the imminent threat of Ferrari's all-new high-riding offering looming, Lamborghini will be sure to make this lighter, faster, and more powerful than ever before.
