Land Rover Defender Transformed Into Luxury Urban SUV

Startech adds performance to a Defender that likes the streets.

To give the legendary Land Rover Defender the send-off it deserved, Germany's Startech launched the limited-edition Sixty8 back in 2015 as a special tribute model loaded with sporty styling enhancements. Only 68 were produced as a homage to the original Defender's 68-year production run. It sold out fast at the time and is now considered a collector's item.

Fast forward six years later, and Startech has refined the new Land Rover Defender, turning it into a luxury urban SUV to create a spiritual successor to the Sixty8. While the new Land Rover Defender is renowned for its impressive off-road capability, Startech's sporty body kit improves the SUV's on-road performance.

At the front, the bumper has been upgraded with a three-piece front spoiler, while the new side sills reduce the SUV's front-axle lift at high speed. At the back, Startech has fitted a subtle roof-mounted rear spoiler as well. A bespoke cover with a Union Jack graphic has also been added to the rear door replacing the mounted spare wheel, giving the rear of the SUV a more refined appearance.

All of the factory black or silver bodywork components can be painted in a body or contrasting color. The custom urban SUV rides on custom 23-inch Monostar E ten-spoke wheels you won't want to get dirty, wrapped in low-profile Yokohama street tires.

To improve the handling, Startech's control module lowers the suspension by around and inch and a half when the Defender is in on-road mode. When in off-road mode, the suspension reverts to the maximum ride height for improved ground clearance when navigating terrain.

Inside, Startech can add red, blue or black anodized sets of bolts and paint the standard silver aluminum panels on the door trim, the center console and the dashboard. Available accessories include floormats with Startech's logo, aluminum pedals, and a footrest. To make the Defender more comfortable on the road, the cabin can be equipped with high quality leather and Alcantara materials in a wide range of colors, quilt patterns and upholstery designs.
