Mini recently revealed a new special edition Cooper S to mark the hatchback reaching the grand old age of 60 this year. Now, another British automotive icon is celebrating a significant anniversary, because the Land Rover Discovery turns 30 this year.

To commemorate its 30th anniversary, Land Rover is launching a new special edition Discovery, aptly named the "Land Rover Discovery Anniversary Edition", in the UK with a limited production run of 400 units. It will cost £59,995 (around $77,400) and will come with plenty of extra standard equipment.

Based on the Discovery Sd6 SE, the new Anniversary Edition will be available in either Corris grey, Loire blue, Indus silver or Santorini black colors and ride on 22-inch wheels. Completing the package is a panoramic glass sunroof, privacy glass and a 380-watt Meridian sound system. It's a well-priced package, as adding the same equipment to a standard Sd6 SE would cost £63,825 (around $82,300).

Like the standard version, the Land Rover Discovery Anniversary Edition is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 diesel that produces 302 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, enabling the SUV to hit 0-62 mph in seven seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph.

"The Discovery family represents the pinnacle of versatility," said Rawdon Glover, Land Rover UK managing director. "Discovery has evolved in its 30-year history to consistently bring technology, capability and relevance." Since the Discovery's inception in 1989, Land Rover has sold more than 1.7 million units worldwide.

Land Rover is also preparing to unleash a new facelifted version of the Discovery Sport, which is the brand's fastest-selling model ever. The refreshed design is expected to feature a new grille, front bumper, headlights, and taillights. For the first time in the model's history, the 2020 Discovery Sport will also be available as a plug-in hybrid.
