Since its launch for the 2016 model year, the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro hasn't been quite the runaway hit that GM might have hoped for. The pony car's mid-cycle update for 2019 failed to move the needle, the Camaro continuing to lose out on sales to the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger.

But as the Chevrolet Camaro enters the 2021 model year, the pony car's case is set to get a bit stronger, as an update to its official order guide last week reveals that the pony car will introduce three new exterior appearance packages. They consist of the Black Accent Exterior Packages, the Red Accent Exterior Package, and the Satin Black Front Splitter/Side Rockers Package.

None of those packages are expected to aid performance - save, perhaps, for the Satin Black Front Splitter and Side Rockers Package, which could lend the Camaro some small aerodynamic benefit. But then, chasing performance hasn't really seemed to help the Camaro much in the showroom, anyway; despite being the best-driving, most sporty of the Big Three's pony car trinity, Chevrolet's well-muscled darling sold tens of thousands fewer units than either the Ford Mustang or Dodge Challenger in 2019.

The new Satin Black Front Splitter/Side Rockers Package will be available on all 2021 Chevrolet Camaro models save for the ZL1, incorporating a second-generation chin splitter and alternate side rocker moldings, both finished in satin black.

That content will all be included with the Black Accent Exterior Package, also available on all 2021 Camaro models, which further includes a set of 20-inch satin black wheels with 5 split spokes.

The Red Accent Exterior Package will be less extensive, consisting simply of a Satin Black hood stripe with a Red Hot hash mark, and matching Red Hot inserts within the black lower grille. The package will only be available on the Camaro 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. The package was previewed by a Camaro LT1 Convertible Concept put on display at the 2019 SEMA Show, with red lower grille inserts and a black hood stripe with red hash marks that appear to fit the bill.

The 2021 Chevrolet Camaro Order Guide still hasn't been finalized, so we could see still more optional packages added to the roster as the pony car gets closer to launch. Stay tuned.
