Maserati is making big moves to become a cleaner automaker and will soon ditch its Ferrari-sourced V8 engine. To fill the void, new hybrid and electric products are on their way, including the electric version of the Maserati GranTurismo. The combustion-powered GT and its EV sibling are about to be revealed, but somebody has spoiled the Italian automaker's party.

CarBuzz was sent these images this morning, showing the all-electric GranTurismo Folgore completely undisguised for the first time. Maserati may have decided that its cars will not be built to rack up likes on Instagram, but it appears that the automaker has gifted this electric sports car the kind of styling that will make it a social media star anyway.

The example you see here has made tri-spoke wheels cool again, thanks to an intricate but elegant design that matches up perfectly with the intricate detailing seen on the front grille mesh. Although the angles of these shots do not reveal everything, we can see that the sexy hood will play host to a pair of integrated vents, further highlighting that EVs can look aggressive and attractive. The headlights are also gorgeous, paying homage to the MC20 supercar without blatantly copying it. Then there is the trademark design flourish that is found on all modern Maseratis, namely the triple vent accents on each fender. Above these, the Folgore badge confirms the electric underpinnings of the car, as does a charging port at the car's rear on the driver's side.

You'll also note the decals placed on this display car, proudly showing off Maserati's Trident calling card. These decals are all but overshadowed by an exquisite choice of paint that magnificently blends hues of peach and copper in a fantastic metallic finish. The back of the car should show four exhaust embellishers for the gas-powered version, but here, a basic faux diffuser will do, possibly paired with an adaptive rear spoiler.

Inside, the untinted windows give us a sneak peek at an interesting color combination. Light cream is contrasted by a luxurious shade of blue, and we can see that this will be a strict four-seater once again, just as the combustion-only GranTurismo's predecessor was. We can't see much more, but you can bet that there will be a Maserati-branded clock in there, likely with a digital face to allow for more functions than just timekeeping.

What else do we know so far? Very little has been confirmed at this stage, but we expect a base asking price of at least $130,000 for this BMW 8 Series competitor. As for the powertrain, we are told to expect three electric motors producing a combined 1,200 horsepower, which should easily translate to a car capable of 0-60 mph in under three seconds. We recently saw the electric sports car on the Nurburgring and found that the thing sounds like a spaceship when driven hard. This is surely an intentional touch of flair from the flamboyant Italians.

Since this car was spotted at Pebble Beach, it's safe to assume that Maserati will give us the full story on this car during Monterey Car Week, which concludes on Sunday, 21 August.
