We could see this new truck in less than a week.
Mercedes-Benz shocked the world when it admitted it was working on a luxury pickup truck model. We've already seen spy shots of this potential model and competitors like Audi and BMW are closely monitoring what Mercedes does to respond with their own pickup truck models. The latest rumors come from French publication TF1, that says that the Mercedes truck will be revealed on October 25, 2016 at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil. If these rumors are true, it means we will be getting our first good look at the truck in less than a week.
It's not difficult to confirm that Mercedes will actually be at the show, but it is still just a rumor that the rumored GLT or X-Class will be revealed. It is still unknown which name Mercedes will go with, but we do know that it will be based on the ladder frame of the Nissan Navara NP300 and Renault Alaskan. Nissan would likely build the truck at Nissan Motor Iberica in Spain or Nissan Santa Isabel in Argentina. The Mercedes version will probably get softer suspension than the Nissan or Renault models. The engine is still unconfirmed, but it could borrow the 2.3-liter dCi diesel engine from the Navara with 190 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. Another engine option could be a 3.0-liter turbo V6 diesel.
We will report any news when we get it, but we would be excited to see this new Mercedes pickup truck when it comes out. We aren't sure how a luxury truck from Mercedes could disrupt the US pickup truck market, so only time will tell.
