Despite being a new model, the Chevrolet Camaro still lags behind its chief rival, the Dodge Challenger. Last year, Chevrolet shipped 48,265 Camaro units, down from 50,963 the previous year. This falls short of the Dodge Challenger, which found 60,997 new homes last year. Whether Dodge can retain this sales lead is another matter, however.

Sales for the Camaro have improved in Q4 since the launch of the updated 2020 model, which introduced a new cheaper LT1 trim that utilizes the 455-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 from the SS trim, improved styling in response the 2019 facelift model's backlash, and an improved 10-speed transmission.

A new special edition Camaro is also joining the 2020 model year lineup. It hasn't been officially announced yet, but an online configurator on Chevrolet's Canadian website spotted by Muscle Cars and Trucks has revealed the details early.

Available for 2LT, 3LT, and 2SS trims, the 2020 Chevy Camaro Shock And Steel Special Edition features several exterior enhancements to distinguish it from the regular model. The most noticeable differences are new Shock and Satin Steel Metallic colors, which have contrasting racing stripes. Selecting the Shock exterior applies a Satin Steel racing stripe, while the Satin Steel version features a Shock-colored racing stripe.

Both models also include 20-inch blade design aluminum wheels and mirrors painted in Carbon Flash, as well as a black fuel filler door with a carbon fiber insert and Brembo 4-piston front calipers painted in yellow. Inside, the package adds black sueded knee pads, a carbon fiber instrument panel frame, and a premium carpeted floor.

Unfortunately, the photos taken from the configurator don't show the new racing stripes included in the package, but we can still see the new striking paint finishes. Pricing details also haven't been confirmed, but the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro starts at $25,000. Hopefully it won't be long until the new special edition package becomes available on Chevrolet's US configurator.
