It's everything we hoped it'd be.
The official debut is likely only a few days away, but today the production-spec Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series has leaked on Instagram in all of its glory. Needless to say, it looks pretty badass. There are obviously a number of exterior modifications, among them an even bigger Panamericana grille, an extended carbon fiber front splitter, and enhanced side sills. Also take note of the new hood featuring a pair of prominent air vents. Out back, a large spoiler features a so-called second wing in between the two struts. There's also an all-new rear bumper and diffuser. The enhanced styling is completed with a set of matte black wheels and black trim throughout the body.
We happen to think this particular example with the metallic silver paint and the aforementioned trim looks downright perfect.
Although we still don't have all of its final performance figures and output levels, we know a fair amount thanks to a direct source that told us the AMG GT R Black Series' 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 will produce 720 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque - 143 hp and more than that the GT R.
Our source also confirmed 0 to 62 mph will take only 3.3 seconds and top speed will be nearly 200 mph. Those interested in buying one need to be aware of something vital: customers who already placed an order for a Mercedes-AMG One hypercar are being offered a GT R Black Series before anyone else. Only after them will other AMG owners be given an opportunity.
Speaking of buying, the Black Series will be priced from €250,000 before options, or about $281,000. So, how fast will the AMG GT R Black Series be around the famous Nurburgring? The AMG GT R can do the deed in 7:10.92, but our previous scoop indicated the Black Series has already accomplished a 'Ring lap time of 6:58. However, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ is currently the fastest production car around the 'Ring with a time of 6:44.97.
Expect a full reveal to happen in the very near future so stay tuned.
