The Chevrolet Equinox has only been on sale since the 2018 model year, but leaked photos of the Chinese version shared on Twitter confirm the popular crossover is getting a facelift for the 2021 model that will borrow cues from the Chevrolet Blazer. Facelifts are common for mid-cycle updates, but the changes applied to the Equinox appear to be very minor. Not that we expected any significant changes considering the Equinox is one of Chevrolet's most popular models.

The current Equinox isn't the best looking crossover on the market, and the 2021 facelift does little to change that.

At the front, the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox features new headlights with a split design inspired by the Blazer, as well as a smaller grille and a tweaked bumper. We don't think these changes do anything to improve the styling, but they probably won't be as controversial as the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro facelift. The side profile looks identical to the current model, while the rear has been updated with redesigned taillights and a new bumper.

The leaked photos also show an RS model with black-out parts including a darkened grille, mirror caps, and wheels, as well as a more aggressive front bumper and a quad exhaust system.

Rumors suggest China's 2021 Chevrolet Equinox will use the same turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine found in the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer. In the Trailblazer, this unit generates 155 horsepower and 115 lb-ft of torque, but it isn't clear if this engine will carry over to the US version. It will also adopt GM's new nine-speed automatic transmission.

In the US, the Chevrolet Equinox is offered with a turbocharged 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder good for 170 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. According to the tweet, the Chinese 2021 Chevrolet Equinox will debut in a few weeks, so the US version should break cover soon after.
