Say hello to the brand's first M-badged electric sedan.
BMW has been building up hype around its all-electric i4 range for quite some time. The German automaker is getting ready to launch the 2022 BMW i4 Gran Coupe and 2022 BMW iX Sports Activity Vehicle on June 1, but hardcore BMW fans only care about one thing when it comes to EVs: the BMW i4 M Sport. The M Performance version of BMW's latest electric creation. Back in April, we gave a quick rundown of the meaner i4, including styling enhancements, but details were still rather scant. Fast forward to May, and we got treated to the first-ever sound clip of an all-electric M Performance car. Now BMW has finally leaked the i4 M50, and it looks fantastic.
We previously saw a version painted in Alpine White, but the latest pics from BMW shows off an i4 M50 covered in a hue of blue that looks surprisingly good. The image was shared on Instagram, but has since been removed. It is easy to spot the M Performance exterior styling bits: there's an aggressive front bumper with prominent air openings on display, and some beefy side skirts to match. The multi-spoke wheel design is also more aggressive and features a diamond-cut finish with gloss-black inners. At the back, a mean-looking diffuser sits proudly under a rounded rear end.
BMW has so far only confirmed the M Sport package for the M50, but the package will most likely be available for all three i4 models, including the i4 eDrive35 and i4 eDrive40. The M50 will be the most powerful of the bunch with a total power output of 523 horsepower and a 0-60 mph sprint time of around four seconds. The EPA estimates a maximum range of 300 miles, which in reality will be much less when new owners get their hands on them.
