The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is a remarkably popular car in great demand, but while the current, "entry-level" Vette is an excellent sports car, what enthusiasts are pining for is the Z06 model. Looking at past Z06 models, it's not difficult to see why this is the one everyone wants, but the details that have emerged about the upcoming Z06 have made us want one more than ever before. Fortunately, there's progress on that front as Chevrolet prepares the car for production and we've been teased with the sound of the car's launch control system too. Now, an Instagram user has come across the Z06 badge.

The shape of the Z in the badge is a little odd, but we think it could be meant to evoke the side air intakes on the Corvette. If that is the case, we can appreciate the sentiment of a badge designed around the styling of the angular sports car, but it still looks very strange. Nevertheless, any concerns about the shape of the badge will be fleeting once you start up the engine. We've been led to believe that this new motor will be the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 on the planet, and thanks to a flat-plane crank, it should sound absolutely epic.

We expect that the engine will produce a mammoth 616 horsepower and be capable of revving to 9,000 rpm. With 5.5 liters of capacity, you'll be able to claim bragging rights for size over the likes of the Mustang Shelby GT350R too, but with only a retuned eight-speed automatic transmission on offer, the Stang will likely be more engaging. The mid-engine layout of the Z06 should balance things out though, making the car much more agile and balanced. Sadly, we can't tell you much more because the spy shots you see here from a car spotting group on Facebook show that GM is keeping its cards very close to its chest on this one. Just be assured that the end product will be worth the wait, wonky badge and all.
