Saleen has had some bad press in the recent past, and then that turned into good press, and that made fans of the American manufacturer very, very happy. News of a limited edition Saleen S7 LM looks like it may get the company, that's just gotten into everyone's good books again, back on track to make more of the stuff it's famous for. One version that gave the niche manufacturer a boost was the Saleen S7R that was introduced in 2001 and went on to dominate the races in its first full race season.

The Saleen S7R customer teams won four Drivers' Championships in the American LeMans, European LeMans, Grand Am, and Spanish GT race series'. The S7R racked up 19 wins out of the 32 races that season. Even more impressive was that the S7R netted 27 pole positions and also managed to set 27 fastest laps, including at of the most gruelling races in the world, the LeMans 24 Hour. There were many more records and wins for the car over the next few years. A few years later in 2006 the Saleen/Oreca Race Team got the fastest lap and also the victory at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. This kind of performance garnered the brand and the car even more fans around the world.

This one that's just gone up for sale through James Edition, is a 2004 Saleen S7R ALMS GT1, it's the 029R chassis car that raced and won in many series. This is the first evolution car after the S7R was redesigned and built in CA, it received changes in terms of aero, suspension, gearbox, brakes and reliability. Acemco engines were built by ELAN and power rose to 730 hp. The car is in great technical and cosmetical condition and has only got 5 hours of drivetime. The car comes with a some spares and is race ready. Oddly this American legend is now based in Luxembourg, but could be shipped worldwide if needed. To own this legend you'll need at least $725,000 large. Someone tell Jay Leno.
