Lego Speed Champions Immortalizes Two More Iconic Movie Cars

Movies & TV / Comments

Buy both Bond and Dom's classic cars for less than $50.

If you're an automotive enthusiast with a limited budget, you can always go the Lego route. And it has been more accessible than ever since Lego introduced its Speed Champions sets. These Speed Champions sets are a cheaper alternative to the top-tier Lego Technic sets that include both production and movie cars.

The latest movie cars immortalized in Lego are James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 and Dominic Toretto's 1970 Dodge Charger RT from The Fast and the Furious. We're eternally grateful to Lego for choosing a car from the first movie instead of the Pontiac Fiero Space Car from the latest installment. The world has suffered enough already and don't need another reminder that F9 existed.

Since these sets sit on the lower end of the spectrum, they have to do without some of the features found on the high-end models. The Lego Creator Expert James Bond Aston Martin DB5 came with machine guns, revolving plates, tire slashers, and a working ejector seat.

The budget version has none of those features, but you get a James Bond figurine in a smart suit. Lego also left enough space for a second passenger in the car. The official brick count is 298 pieces, but the official price is not yet available. These images were leaked by a toy retailer and are only expected to be available in August. At most, you're looking at $20.

The second movie car is Dom's Charger. It has more detail; by that, we mean a built-in roll cage. Like the Aston mentioned above, it's a cheaper version of a more complex 1,077-piece set from the Lego Technic series. That $100 kit came standard with an engine with moving pistons, nitro bottles, working steering, and wishbone suspension. As a bonus, Lego also included a wheel stand to recreate the famous drag race at the end of the first movie.

The smaller version only gets the roll cage and a little bald Dom Lego figurine. Tiny Dom and his Charger will also launch later this year for around $20.
