Lewis Hamilton Working On Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar

Now that the F1 season has finished, the world champion has some time on his hands.

Mercedes-Benz had fans in stitches with its inventive ad series called "Crash Tales", which showed off the manufacturer's lighter side. But in its latest ad, Mercedes and Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton delve head-first into the serious world of F1 hybrid technology, and it looks like something out of a Transformers movie. The World Champion has been known to take part in some light-hearted brand building, such as that time he beat his boss in an AMG GT R track battle, but in the new ad, things take a more serious turn, after all, making motorsport green is a rather important topic isn't it?

After a successful F1 season, Lewis Hamilton will be spending his time working with the carmaker on the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar. The ad shows the car in its final development stages, and will set the stage for the introduction of two more electrified models, as well as the launch of the new AMG technology label "E Performance".

The Mercedes-AMG One promises to raise the hypercar bar beyond what was previously thought possible and packs a true F1 punch. Powering this exotic machine is a 1.6-liter V6 hybrid-gasoline engine with direct injection and electrically supported single turbocharging, which is lifted straight out of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 racing car, and develops over 1,000 horsepower. As seen in the video, the car also features numerous active aero features borrowed from motorsport development.

"I can still hardly believe that there will soon be a hypercar with a Formula 1 engine. We won the world championship with this engine in 2015, and I was involved in its development for a long time. I was able to drive Project One during the film work for the new campaign, and I'm very proud of the extraordinary effort Mercedes-AMG has invested in this project. This car is absolutely unique," said Lewis Hamilton during filming. The future is so close we can taste it.
