The Lexus LC Coupe is a stunning luxury sports coupe, but it's never been used as a police car - until now. Over in Japan, the luxury coupe has joined the Tochigi Prefectural Police Department. Yes, this is the same police force that has Nissan GT-R, Honda NSX, and Nissan Skyline R34 patrol cars in their fleet.

The LC was donated to the police force by Lexus company executive Kazuo Nakamura. "I'd like you to make use of this in preventing traffic accidents," Nakamura said when he contacted the police force last year. Nakamura also reportedly donated the GT-R to the force.

The LC police car has been assigned to the Mobile Traffic Unit and will be deployed onto the streets to help reduce traffic accidents and stop fleeing vehicles. So, if you ever happen to be in Tochigi Prefectural and break the speed limit, you might see a Lexus LC police car in your rear view trying to pull you over.

The Lexus LC cop car will also be used for promotional events and was handed over to the police department during a ceremony. The Lexus LC is already a very stylish-looking sports coupe, and it looks even better sporting a black and white police livery and red flashing lights.

Modifications made to the Lexus LC to transform it into a police car were estimated to cost 17.4 million yen (around $164,800). It isn't known if any mechanical modifications were made to the patrol car, but the standard Lexus LC should have no trouble keeping up with law-breakers trying to outrun police in sports cars.

Under the hood is a 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a ten-speed automatic transmission. This enables the sports coupe to hit 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 168 mph.
