Add it to the list of growing LC special editions.
Lexus has a penchant for creating special editions for its newest halo model, the Lexus LC, ranging from the stunning Structural Blue-painted LC500 Regatta Edition to the very yellow LC500 Inspiration Series. But now, another special edition has been launched in highly limited numbers. Exclusive to Japan, and inspired by birds and airplanes, meet the Lexus LC Aviation. Limited to just 70 units, the Aviation will be available on both the LC500 and hybrid LC500h, with the upgrades inspired by flight to highlight the car's aerodynamic technology.
According to the Japanese luxury manufacturer, the Aviation series cars use "aerodynamic safety technology" to exercise enhancements in ride comfort and performance, while simultaneously giving it a powerful look.
To do this, aerodynamic enhancements have been fashioned from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), with the carbon fiber rear wing developed exclusively for the limited-edition model. It was developed using aircraft-level aerodynamic technology and used expertise from Yoshihide Muroya, an aerobatic pilot who knows a thing or two about wings.
In the LC Aviation, it creates downforce but also controls the airflow over the side of the car to supposedly improve yaw response, direction changes, and sterling response, while the vortices created help evacuate 'dirty air' from the rear of the LC.
Other exterior enhancements include a set of split five-spoke aluminum wheels, while under the skin, a Torsen LSD is standard fitment. The front grille and exterior accents are all finished in black, while the paintwork can be had in one of three options: White with Nova glass flakes, Sonic Silver, or Black.
Inside, leather and Alcantara adorn most surfaces, including the center console, while the doors get bespoke Alcantara trimming that mimics airflow over a wing and carbon fiber trim elements on the dash and door sills continue the CFRP wings aesthetic. The shift knob, steering wheel, and roof lining are all finished in Alcantara, too.
As for price, the LC 500 Aviation costs 15-million Yen, approximately $143,600 at current exchange rates, while the LC500h starts at the equivalent of $148,000.
