Now that we know what the all-new 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser looks like and what engine options it will have, the rumor mill has its sights on the inevitable Lexus LX.

The LX has always been based on the Land Cruiser, albeit with its own styling and upmarket interior. It may have already made a quick appearance during the recent NX press conference.

As we reported earlier this month, an internal document appears to have leaked. In addition to naming two LX 570 variants, it also names three models carrying the LX 600 nomenclature. There appears to be a standard 4x4, an F-Sport model, and a VIP.

You can tell a lot from a name. The LX 570 models likely indicate that Lexus will not ditch the old-school 5.7-liter V8 engine. Toyota's new Land Cruiser may have dropped it, but the V8 will continue to live on in other models. With its low-down torque, this brute of an engine does an admirable job in the current LX 570, so why mess with a recipe that works?

The LX 600 designation will likely use the all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that motivates the new Land Cruiser. Rated at 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, it is more powerful than the V8.

The designation following the LX 600 is more important, however. Currently, Lexus only offers one model in two-row or three-row configurations. If Lexus wants a bigger share of the luxury off-roader pie, it needs more models.

F-Sport is now a trim option on every other model, apart from the aging GX 460. It will likely have a model-specific exterior with a more aggressive grille, darker alloy wheels, perforated leather, aluminum pedals, and contrast stitching for the leather seats.

The VIP is more interesting. It could indicate a bulletproof model, as this trend's popularity is increasing. A more likely scenario is an ultra-luxury model meant to battle the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. To us, VIP also indicates an important person seated in the rear. The Lexus LS already has a front right seat that can be pushed up to the dashboard to create more space for the right rear passenger.

The latest round of news comes courtesy of a Japanese website called Creative Trend. It appears to be a reliable source of information since it reported accurate Land Cruiser information before it was widely available.

According to the site, the LX 600 will use the twin-turbocharged V6 engine. In countries where the diesel model will be sold, it will wear the LX 500d tag.

The big news is the LX 750h moniker, said to be an all-new hybrid model. This V6 based model is rumored to produce 480 hp and 642 lb-ft of torque.

Since Lexus is likely aiming higher with the LX, it needs some fancy shock and awe features. There's even talk of a fingerprint recognition system for the starter button. Lexus will likely also include a larger version of the new NX's infotainment interface, finally putting an end to the clunky touchpad interface.
