Lexus Outsells Mercedes, Keeps Japan in the Race

Sales

Grows 21 percent over last year despite no CLA-fighter.

With sales in the US luxury segment growing this year for just about all manufacturers, it seems that the biggest surprise came from Lexus, which beat out Mercedes-Benz with a massive rise in sales over last year. Lexus grew 21.1 percent year-over-year, selling 26,921 units last month as opposed to Mercedes’ 26,617. Mercedes, however, only grew 4.13 percent, despite its new models and downmarket move with the hot-selling CLA-Class.

Lexus, on the other hand, has no entry in the CLA’s segment, yet still managed this impressive growth. Luckily for Germany, BMW continues to top the luxury market in the US, and BMW leads Lexus by 12,000 units since the beginning of 2014.
