According to the ever-reliable Auto Express, Lexus is planning to rival the likes of the Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes GLK, BMW X3, and Audi Q5 with an entry-level crossover. Toyota's luxury arm has been reveling in the success of the RX range, especially in the US. Nonetheless, Andy Pfeiffenberger, vice president of Lexus Europe, is keen to concentrate on the class below. "We have been very slow to come to the market with a downsized SUV," he told the magazine.

"This is an area of our range that you will see develop over the next few years." There are no official details about what the marque has in mind, but the new sub-RX SUV will come in hybrid form and be priced around £30,000. Underpinning the new baby RX could well be the CT200h hatchback, which would give it the right size and requisite level of fuel efficiency. Photos displayed are of the 2012 Lexus RX.
