It's hard to believe the same car company that builds the new buck-toothed 4 Series also penned the design for the gorgeous 8 Series Gran Coupe. Blending the style of a coupe with the practicality of a four-seater sedan, the 8 Series Gran Coupe is arguably one of BMW's best-looking models in a long time.

Sadly, sales of the 8 Series have been lackluster, sparking fears that the gorgeous grand tourer will be discontinued. However, spy shots of prototypes have shown the 8 Series will live on to receive a facelift. To try and boost sales of the current model, BMW has launched the 8 Series Collector's Edition, a new stylish special-edition version of the four-door coupe.

There's a catch, though: it's only available in Japan. And just to make it even more limited, you can only buy it until the end of June.

Based on the 840i M Sport, the 8 Series Collector's Edition is available in four bold BMW Individual Colors that emphasize the car's elegance: Aventurine Red, Azurite Black, Davit Grey, and Tanzinite Blue with chrome accents. Dual-tone 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels also come as standard.

Inside, the cabin features leather seats finished in a contrasting ivory white and an Alcantara roofline, resulting in a stunning color combination.

Since it's based on the 840i M Sport, the limited-edition 8 Series Gran Coupe is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six producing 335 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. This unit is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that can send power to either the rear or all four wheels.

In Japan, the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Collector's Edition retails for 15.1 million yen. That's around $138,000 at current exchange rates, making it even more expensive than the M8 Gran Coupe, which starts at $130,000 in the US. But given the model's exclusive color combinations and limited availability, BMW is clearly confident this desirable limited-edition 8 Series Gran Coupe will become a collector's car and increase in value in the future.
