It comes with all of AMG's sporty touches.
Back in April, Mercedes-Benz revealed the facelifted CLS for the 2022 model year. At the same time, we received confirmation that the more potent AMG CLS 53 won't be available in the US for the 2022 model year (and possibly beyond), leaving only the less powerful CLS 450. Coinciding with the announcement of the facelifted CLS-Class lineup in Europe - where the AMG CLS 53 continues to be available - Mercedes-AMG has also announced a new Limited Edition variant that will join the range. Only 300 of these derivatives will be available with a range of appealing exterior and interior styling upgrades.
Outside, the new CLS Limited Edition is available in either Cashmere White Magno or Selenite Grey Magno paint. Above the side sills, there are sporty racing stripes in either Dark Grey metallic gloss (with the Cashmere White) or Black non-metallic gloss (Selenite Grey). These stripes are highlighted with red non-metallic gloss. The bold look is emphasized by the fitment of 20-inch AMG five-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels in black. The menacing look is enhanced by the AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II, with numerous high-gloss black elements dotted around the exterior. Oddly, Mercedes shared these styling details without pictures of the accompanying Limited Edition - the CLS 53 pictured here is an example finished in Cote d'Azur light blue.
Inside, the additions include AMG Nappa leather upholstery in a two-tone Black/Silver Grey Pearl color scheme. The steering wheel gets a mix of Nappa leather and Dinamica along with red contrast topstitching. Elsewhere in the cabin, there is AMG carbon-fiber trim. The Limited Edition gets the AMG Dynamic Plus Package by default which includes special LED lighting with a 3D projection of the AMG emblem on the ground when the front doors are opened. As the Limited Edition is a Mercedes-AMG model, it's likely equipped with the 53's 435-horsepower powertrain. Sadly, this means it's unlikely to make it to the US even if the 53 model returns for 2023. The latest CLS will start arriving in European showrooms in August, whereas US customers will have to wait until early next year for the 2022 CLS 450 4Matic.
