As we approach the holiday season, many parts of the United States are facing sub-zero temperatures and snow-covered roads. The winter solstice takes place of over the weekend, making it the perfect moment for Lincoln to show off a piece of safety technology to help owners get through the harsh season. The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is now available with an Advanced VisioBlade wiper system as optional equipment.

Like other windshield wipers we've seen, the VisioBlade system dispenses wiper fluid through the blades to better clear away dirt and ice. But unlike most other wipers, Lincoln's are heated.

Lincoln says the blades can heat up to 86 degrees Fahrenheit, helping them defrost the windshield in around four minutes (compared to 15 minutes with a traditional defroster).

"It sprays in front of the blade, unlike traditional systems that spray the entire windshield," Geoffrey Johnson, Lincoln's body core engineer explained of the new system. "You're using up to 50% less fluid than a traditional system, and you're improving both day and night visibility by spraying directly in front of the blade as it travels, not over the entire windshield."

By keeping the blades heated, they will not become impaired by snow buildup. "You don't get that ice buildup on the blades when you're driving through sleet or snow," said Johnson. "It's a more efficient way to keep the windshield clear."

The VisioBlade system is offered as part of an Elements Package Plus for $1,180, which also includes heated and ventilated front and rear seats and a heated steering wheel. Aviator models are also available with other features to aid in winter driving such as Air Glide Suspension and Lincoln drive modes of Slippery and Deep Condition. Lincoln says the VisioBlade system is already available on in-stock Aviators so if you live in a cold climate, you might want to opt for the Elements Plus Package.
