This is the sweet sound of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia's 4.3-liter V8
Fans of the original Lancia Stratos must have rejoiced when Manifattura Automobili Torino announced the New Stratos would be entering production eight years after the original concept was revealed. Built by the Italian coachbuilder, it may not be an official successor by Lancia, but it’s looking like it will be the next best thing. Based on the Ferrari 430 Scuderia, the design is a modern-day interpretation that stays faithful to the original Stratos. We'll soon get to see the New Stratos make its world debut at this week’s Geneva Motor Show.
Before then, a video of the showcar being loaded onto a delivery truck on its way to the show has emerged, giving our ears a taste of what the reborn Stratos sounds like as it roars into life. What you’re hearing is the sweet sound of its naturally aspirated 4.3-liter V8 engine taken from the 430 Scuderia. The coachbuilder has confirmed the engine has been tuned to deliver over 550 horsepower.
In comparison, the original 2010 concept had an extra 30 horsepower and 36 lb-ft of torque, producing a total of 540 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. The New Stratos will be available in three flavors: a GT racer, a Safari version, and as a daily use supercar. We’re expecting the Safari model to be a tribute to the iconic Lancia Stratos rally car. It will also feature specially tuned suspension enabling the reborn Stratos to “deliver an experience that no other supercar can assure on tight and twisty roads.” There are, however, a few caveats. Production will be limited to just 25 units. If you want one, you’ll need to cough up a hefty 500,000 euros ($617,000)—and that’s just for the conversion.
If you don’t already own a Ferrari 430 Scuderia, that will set you back around $200,000–350,000, so you’ll be spending about $800,000 in total. More details will be revealed at Geneva this week to help you decide if you can justify those steep costs, so stay tuned.
