The Olympics is coming to London this summer and to make the most of the festivities, the capital will host a Pininfarina exhibit to showcase the best of Italian design. Many associate the design house with Ferrari and with good reason as most prancing horses that have left the Maranello factory over the years have been styled by Pininfarina. However, the studio has not only been responsible for the design of these and countless other cars.

It has also worked on a range of different objects. Of course cars represent Pininfarina's core business, and as such a Ferrari FF and Maserati GranTurismo will be on display on the day of inauguration, as well as four sculptures in cedar wood made by Riva 1920. These reproduce four of the coachbuilder's design icons: the Cisitalia of 1947, the Dino of 1967, the Birdcage 75th of 2005 and the Cambiano, the concept car launched in Geneva this year. A limited edition scale model of the 2uettottanta, launched in 2010 to celebrate the company's 80th anniversary, will also be on show.

The real focus of the showcase however will be on Pininfarina Extra, established in 1986, specializing in product and interior design, architecture, nautical design and aviation. Examples of their creations include the Torch - the symbol of Turin 2006 Winter Olympics, Coca Cola's Free Style beverage dispenser, a Lavazza Firma coffee machine, designs for football stadiums, hotel, aircrafts, and even a scale model of a monorail that's being built for South Korea. Countless other objects will be on display at the Italian Cultural Institute in London from now until 15 July 2012. Entrance is free, so if you're in the British capital make sure to check it out.
