Carroll Shelby knew all-electric vehicles were coming and the company he founded isn't wasting any time. Meet the Shelby Mustang Mach-E GT Concept, which is having its global premiere at this year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Based on the Mach-E with AWD and the Performance Edition Extended Range Battery currently on sale, the company focused primarily on new materials and technologies to shave weight while also improving strength and boosting performance.

Some of the enhancements include graphene-infused carbon fiber body pieces, such as the front fascia assembly, custom one-piece forged Monoblock wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S lightweight tires.

A Shelby-tuned, Ford MagneRide damping system provides a bit of driving attitude. The interior boasts custom Recaro leather seats and there's Shelby badging inside and out. We're also digging those exterior racing stripes. Shelby points out the hood design harkens back to the Shelby Series 1 hood as it provides downforce and, equally important, cooling.

In addition, the concept has an official identification number. It's important to remember this is just a concept for now, but it's clear where Shelby American is heading. Carroll Shelby himself was fully aware EVs were on the way before he died back in 2012.

In fact, exactly 10 years ago this month, he said in an interview that his company is "getting into so many things that I think are interesting. Electric cars, different types of fuel. They're calling them the 'green years.' And I'd like to be around to see how this works out. I'd like to be a part of it. But at 88, you've got to realize the reality of life. I won't be around to see it, but until I cross the river, I'm going to be a part of it and interested in what's happening right now."

Shelby American says this Mach-E concept is being used to gauge public interest towards a possible production-spec version. So if you like what you're seeing, don't be shy.
