Has Lotus sold them all?

2019 is an important year for Lotus as the UK sports car brand introduces its all-new electric hypercar, the Evija. The Evija just made its North American debut at the Monterey Car Week where it was displayed at The Quail, marking the first time prospective buyers in the US could see the car up close and decide if they want to be one of the 130 lucky customers to drop $2.2 million.

"This is exactly the start we hoped for. Evija is an outstanding and exceptional car - designed and engineered to put Lotus back on the map as the innovator and technical leader that it is. Many orders are now taken, giving us great confidence to hit our planned volume as we enter production next year," said Lotus Cars' CEO, Phil Popham.

Lotus says the North American debut helped attract double-digit order figures and most of the production allotment been allocated to US customers. This is a strong start for an all-new car like the Evija but more established brands like Aston Martin and Porsche have been known to sell out much quicker, sometimes even before the car goes on sale to the public.

It may take some time for Lotus to attract the brand loyalty seen with companies like Porsche, but it will get there in due time with amazing products like the Evija. At The Quail, the Evija received praise from collectors and media personalities alike, including Jay Leno, who recently announced his love for electric cars. "Seeing the Lotus Evija debut at The Quail was fantastic - the brand has an amazing history and it is exciting to see its future unfold with the first of its new sports cars," said Gordon McCall, Director of Motorsports for The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

Lotus will only build 130 examples of the Evija at around $2.2 million a pop, so owning one will be highly exclusive. Each car will be powered by two electric motors producing a total output of 1,972 horsepower and 1,253 lb-ft of torque. The Evija will be one of the quickest cars in the world and collectors will be very lucky to have one in their garage.
