Lotus is going hybrid with their newest supercar, adding a 100hp electric engine to their developed in-house naturally aspirated V8 engine. In an interview with Autocar UK, Lotus CEO Dany Bahar again reiterated his desire to focus on weight-saving construction measures for all of their new models, including the new hybrid supercar. This news comes on the heels of their Cygnet-fighting city car being pushed back until late 2013.

Each new model coming off the line will receive a hardcore version, with a tweaked engine and weight-saving measures at the heart of each of them. In regards to the city car, it will be an electric or range-extended mini car. Bahar said of the EV, "There will be no hybrid system, the engine will have more power, but the major performance gains will come from losing weight. The 'Racing' versions of each model will always be pure, driver's cars. There will be never be anything unnecessary on them, and we will use materials such as carbon fiber."
