We're now achingly close to the Lucid Air's big reveal on September 9. Much has been written about the electric luxury sedan that has an incredible EPA rating of over 500 miles and can complete the quarter-mile blitz in under 10 seconds. Those numbers should have the Tesla Model S considerably worried, but is the Model X SUV under threat, too?

That appears to be the case after Lucid posted a single, hazy teaser image on Twitter of the Air in the background and something a lot larger looming up close. The accompanying text posed the question: "How would Lucid reimagine the SUV?"

The brand's message further went on to confirm the introduction of the Air on September 9 and "perhaps a special preview of the future". In the image, we can only see a partial rear view of the apparent Lucid SUV with an ultra-slim taillight cluster and a muscular body that juts out below the glasshouse.

It's hard to tell anything more about it, but as this is a teaser, it does the job of making us wonder what the American EV automaker has up its sleeve. If this is indeed a Model X-sized vehicle, it'll need to match the Tesla's 2.6-second blast to 60 mph and range of just over 300 miles - these numbers apply to the Model X Performance.

Judging by the Air, Lucid clearly has the expertise to not only match those numbers with an SUV but surpass them. The sedan's dual-motor electric powertrain makes up to 1,080 horsepower, which is over 300 hp more than the output of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Aided by all-wheel drive, it shaves eight-tenths off the Porsche's quarter-mile time of 10.7 seconds, which is a ridiculous achievement considering how rapid the Turbo S already is.

This sort of power and a potentially class-leading range in a more practical SUV package could thrust Lucid to the front of the pack quickly indeed. We'll find out more on September 9.
