Lucid seems to be one of the few companies that can truly challenge Tesla. The new Lucid Air will boast greater range than the Model S and will be a highly advanced new offering. Combined with the fact that the Air is the most aerodynamic car in the world, Lucid seems to be taking its rivalry with Tesla very seriously. However, you can't rival a company with just one car. Lucid knows this and has been planning a crossover, but now we've seen it completely exposed without any camouflage and we can tell you that it's going to be absolutely massive.

In a tweet from @mvahead on Twitter, the new crossover was spied on the road, presumably as part of a photoshoot for an imminent marketing campaign. As you can see, it's a truly unique vehicle in terms of design. Those blocky wheels are futuristic for sure and are probably designed that way to reduce aerodynamic turbulence. The body itself is enormous and features very tight shutlines with hidden door handles.

A two-tone roof with some antennae-like fins is also on display, but it's the curved rear end that really breaks new ground. Whether this is a good or bad thing is yet to be decided, but we'll give them kudos for coming up with something new.

We do like the full-length taillight fixture, but we're unsure about so much chrome. It looks good on monochromatic cars, but those that aren't gray, black, or white seem a bit over the top. Interestingly, there's a Tesla Model 3 in one of the shots. Perhaps Lucid ought to look to its biggest rival's Model Y for better proportioning of chrome, but this new crossover looks like the finished product so we doubt there'll be any changes to the chrome levels for some time.

Regardless, Lucid is certainly building cars that grab your attention. Let's hope for the new EV company's sake that its stores get inundated with orders.
